I am Valerie Johnson, Owner of Colors of Commitment
I founded Colors of Commitment after being inspired by the amazing world support I observed during the 2009 Inaugural. Having spent over 20 years in the Information Technology field, I found myself unemployed for an entire year.
Since no one would hire me, God inspired me!
That inspiration led me to the creation of this project.
The goal is for each one to embrace America's diversity
and commit to one action that will lead to a change.
One commitment, one individual, one action at a time.
How to Make Your Commitment:
We want all people - Black, Red, Brown, Yellow and White to:
- Commit to a change in yourself - Be less sensitive, slower to anger, and more compassionate.
- Commit to volunteering - Volunteer through your church, or an organization, or on your own...just do something to change your world. You will be surprised at what reaching beyond yourself will bring back to you.
- Commit to helping your local community - Pick-up trash that may be laying on the sidewalk, help the neighbor who can't mow their lawn or may be shut-in, smile more often, say "good morning," invite someone for tea, or bake someone cookies - commit to doing something!
- Commit to accepting the diversity of our wonderful world. Embrace all races and all our differences. Together we can overcome anything.
- Purchase and wear your wristband everyday as a symbol of your commitment. Whenever you see someone with this band you will know that one more person has made a commitment to change their world!
Colors of Commitment is not about politics. We are about fostering a better understanding among all people. Through Colors of Commitment, each of us, one day at a time, one commitment at a time, can be a part of creating a better world.
The Colors of Commitment Book - Coming in the Fall of 2010
After purchasing your band and wearing it for a while, be sure to come back and visit our website and leave us your testimonial. We are compiling the testimonials to publish in a book dedicated to California Assembly Member, Curren Price - a true volunteer committed to making a difference in the world. Assembly Member Price has introduced and supported our program. We want everyone to know how the wearing of this little wristband helped us all to do something to change our world.
